4-day tour to discover some of the most prestigious DOCG wines of Alto Piemonte.

Hidden at the base of the Italian Alps on the uppermost stretches of Piedmont, is the little-known winegrowing area of Alto Piemonte. The region is an Alpine paradise set amid forest-clad hills on the banks of the Sesia River. It includes the four provinces of Biella, Vercelli, Novara, and Verbania.

Today, the region is experiencing a ‘wine boom’, making it a great place to visit for all wine lovers. This tour is a great introduction to the distinguished Alto Piemonte Nebbiolo wines. You will be meeting directly the winemakers in their cellars for a truly authentic experience. An exciting and rich programme where you will taste the best wine but also the delicious food of this beautiful and unspoiled region, that is still relatively unknown but just waiting to be discovered!

Tour Program:

Day 1

  • From 15.00 Arrival in Gattinara and check in to three-star hotel.
  • Time to relax and dine at the hotel (2-course menu + dessert, drinks included*).
  • Overnight stay.

Day 2

  • Breakfast.
  • Visit of historical winery in Gattinara, founded in 1906, with a guided tour to the cellar and vineyards and tasting of three wines including a Gattinara DOCG, from one of the oldest producers of the Gattinara DOCG area.
  • Lunch in a typical local restaurant in Gattinara with 3-course menu. This will include the Piemontese appetizer, Gattinara risotto, house dessert, water and coffee (wine excluded).
  • Visit one of the most prestigious and renowned wineries of Gattinara. Guided tour of the winery and tasting of 3 Gattinara DOCG from the famous producer.
  • Time to relax and dine at the hotel (2-course menu + dessert, drinks included*).
  • Overnight stay.

Day 3

  • Breakfast. Then meeting with the driver in the hotel lobby followed by transfer to Lessona, a winemaking village of historical importance, to visit a local DOC winery.
  • Guided tour of the cellar and Lunch at the winery with tasting menu with both traditional and local food paired with wines. Example menu:
    • Aperitif with warm focaccia and olives, accompanied by “Corinna Piemonte DOC Rose 2016” or “100% Serra Blu Erbaluce Spumante” (according to availability);
    • Choice of mixed local cold meats or ‘Paletta Biellese’ (a typical ham from Biella) with apple chutney;
    • San Carlino cheese with chives or herbs;
    • Cetara anchovies’ with Piedmont “bagnet rosso” (typical Piedmont sauce made of tomatoes and spices) or veal tongue in “salsa verde” (Italian sauce made of parsley and anchovies);
    • Red wine: “Garsun Coste della Sesia red DOC 2014”;
    • Handmade tagliatelle with ‘Fassona’ beef ragù, or risotto with red cabbage, sausage and Maccagno cheese;
    • Red wine: “Muntacc Coste della Sesia DOC 2013”;
    • Cheese board selection with chutney;
    • Red wine: “Bramaterra DOC 2012” or “Lessona DOC 2013”
  • Transfer to Castellengo di Cossato followed by guided tour of the historical cellars used in production, and tasting of two wines in combination with typical products. Wine from a renowned local producer.
  • Time to relax and dine at the hotel (2-course menu + dessert, drinks included*).
  • Overnight stay.  

Day 4

  • Breakfast, check out.
    * drinks included: 250 ml of red or white wine and mineral water per person.
